A.L. Lazarus is to be commended for this wonderful compendium of Hoosier authors, poets, playwrights, and composers. It is above all a landmark in literature - expecially Hoosier literature. For too long, many people have lived under the misconception that not too many writers came from the Midwest. And above all, no one ever produced a literary masterpiece from Indiana. Fact is, that Indiana has produced and continues to produce, a great many good authors. The book is divided into the following categories: Essays, Biographical and Autobiographical Sketches, Short Stories and Other Fiction, Plays, Folk Songs and Ballads of Indiana and Poems and SOngs. And in each section is contained numerous Hoosier authors' works. Especially pleasing is the Short Story section. In this section is contained such famous works as George Ade's "The set of Pe", Booth Tarkington's "Great Men's Sons", Kurt Vonnegut Jr.'s "The Euphio Question" and Hary Mark Petrakis' "The Song of Rodanthe". The poetry section includes, of course, James Whitcomb Riley, Ruth Stone and leading American concretist poet, Mary Ellen Solt. What is great about this work is that it includes well-known and lesser-known Hoosier writers together. It also includes contemporary authors as well as those who have long passed.
