The Incendiary Fellowship by Dr. David Elton Trueblood

I have re-read this book for the 3rd time since purchasing it in the late 1960's. My congregation is presently studying another book, "The Purpose Driven Life" and I was presented with the opportunity to teach our Adult Bible Fellowship on the subject of the family of God (fellowship). I wanted to review what Dr. Trueblood has to say about this very important subject of fellowship so that is why I re-read the book. Each time I read it, it just gets better. It was great the first time through, but it was even greater this time. I do not normally mark my books....this one is marked up all over the place! Dr. Trueblood says things about the Church of the mid-1900's that is true even today. He puts into very easy to understand words the idea of the necessity of every Christian being a minister and missionary wherever they find themselves at any particular point in their lives. He underscores the importance of the professional minister as being the "coach" to the regular members of the Body of Christ. He clearly emphasizes the need for every member to have a consistent, daily, intimate walk with Jesus Christ as Lord as well as Savior. He explains how Church renewal must happen in every age. He stresses the centrality of Scripture in all of this. He not only writes for those who are in professional leadership positions, but also for those, like myself, who form the vast Body of non-professional believers....the Family of God. I appreciate his candor and recommend this book to anyone who has an interest and concern for the Christian Church regardless what the name of your local community of believers is called. You will be blessed by the Lord God Most High when you read this book.
