Excellent visual guide of Peruvian archaeological destinations
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 16 years ago
This comprehensive collection of photos of Peruvian pre-hispanic archaeological sites and cultural artifacts deserves a place in any collection of Ancient civilizations books. This visual catalog can be quite helpful in selecting sights to include in a tour of Peru. There are many sights beyond the typical Cusco and Machu Picchu destinations as shown in these richly illustrated pages that provide a better overview of Ancient Peru. The contents have a greater personal impact supplementing my photo journals and providing historical context after a recent trip to Northern Peru that included: Paramonga Fortress, Sechin sacrificial platform, Chan Chan Citadel, Dragon Huaca, and Sipan tombs of the Moche lords. This book confirmed that I had missed the important Sican National Museum in Lambayeque which despite its similar name to "Sipan", it's a different tourist destination in its own right. Common visitors' mistake, so plan accordingly. The illustrations credits page can offer clues as to which museums might be worth a visit. There were a couple of minor editorial mistakes in a photo caption of a Chan Chan frieze and the artist reconstruction of the Dragon Huaca, but it remains an excellent visual catalog for any fan of Archaeology.
