This is the third book in cookbook humorist Peg Bracken's I HATE TO COOK books, "Recipes and Relief for the Reluctant Cook and the Harried Houseperson", with recipes arranged by month. The book... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Peg Bracken's "Almanack" is a treasure of warm wit and wisdom. Yes, the recipes are retro now, and many of the references are also, but a woman's heart, remains a woman's heart. Peg will remind many of us of our best friend, or the best friend we wish we were lucky enough to have! Times change, as the seasons do in the Alamanack; Peg is a marvelous companion through changing weather. She's funny, bright, practical and imaginative. Many of her quotations will stick with you. Here's one of my favorites, an old adage: "One day may bring what a whole year has not." "The I Hate to Cook Almanack" is a keeper, highly recommended!
A very comforting read

I had never paid much attention to Peg Bracken even though my mother had all her books and some of her recipes are family staples. I found this one when sorting out a bunch of books to donate and something made me sit down and read it. I now want to find copies for all my friends. Some of the receipes and humor are dated, but this book is like curling up with a cup of coffee and a hot muffin on a rainy day. I love it!
A real treasure

I checked this book out from my local public library. It's the first time I've read any of Peg Bracken's books and it was delightful. I enjoy cooking, but the title intrigued me so much that I had to check it out. Ms. Bracken has a great sense of humor. Thanks for a great read!

I can't believe this is out of print - I so badly want a copy! The book provides a full year's worth of recipes, humor, cooking tips, and comments, and it's funny and engrossing enough to read straight through. Even as a vegetarian, I found many recipes I wanted to make...but this is a library copy. Sooner or later, they're going to want it back. Excellent book, great gift idea, lots of fun...just out of print. Darn.
Enchanting, informative, and delicious

This is one of my very favorite books in the world, I cling to my dog=eared paperback copy as if it were the Bible. Chapters are divided into months, and each month into days, including a notable quote, observation, bit of information, and of course a fast and easy recipe in the inimitable Peg Bracken style. I wish they would reprint this, I would kill for a hardcover copy!!!
