Love, Abuse and Dreams Fulfilled

House of Puppets Rusty, our "Steel Magnolia heroine, takes to the streets of San Francisco with down home old-fashioned-faith, innocence and determination to face the unfavorable odds in the cold and calculating art world. She barely manages to hang on as she struggles to grow by turning to unforgettable characters, misfits and loving souls along her path until Rusty finally realizes she has all the strength she needs within herself to achieve the success she craves. This is a warm and funny story full of love and heartache told with the colorful imagery that only a true southern charmer can create. Like a lazy southern afternoon, this story requires you to slow down, relax and savor every wonderful moment!

A memorable experience

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It is a bit slow going in the very beginning, but you soon get caught up in it. The characters are colorful and unique, and you won't soon forget any of them. The author clearly knows and understands life in both Charleston and San Francisco and her descriptions of both are masterful. It's a vivid portrayal of life's joys and sorrows, frustrations and betrayals, loves and triumphs. It's about family and friendships and what makes life such a memorable journey. It is a book you will feel good about reading, and one you will remember long after you have finished the final chapter.

A Provocative Woman Opens the Door to a Compelling Life of Challenges

I think we all want to look back at our life experiences at some time or another, but through this book Kay Holz has literally swept us back into hers. Or is the Southern charmer Rusty really someone else? Great character development creates a compelling group of people who were share her dreams and depression, her joys and surprises as she tastes every drop of life that she can pour. I particularly enjoyed the fact that each chapter feels like a self contained story that left me with a satisfied feeling about the characters logically moving through the arc of their lives. If you can read the last two chapters without enjoying some great laughs and crying some heartfelt tears, I would really be surprised.
