The Last House Guest: Slightly Lacking

This book could have been a great thriller, and perhaps is for some people, but really was not my cup of tea. Set in a small tourist town on the coast of Maine where everyone knows each other’s business, a suspicious death takes place which rattles the community. A small list of suspects made the plot seemingly intend to be a twist on a classic mystery, however it fell flat. The story jumped around too much with random flashbacks as well as dedicated flashbacks. Pieces of the book completely repeated themselves and the language in the second half of the book became repetitive as well. Often times I was 50+ pages ahead of the narrator, but not always; there were a few twists I did not see coming! The main character, Avery, was also oddly obsessed over her best friend which created a weird dynamic. Overall this book was far too disjointed for my preference.
