Controversies explained so you can make up your own mind...

The thing that I like most about Harold Lindsell's book (former editor of a popular conservative Christian magazine), is the clear way that he explains the differing opinions of the conservative, evangelical Christians and the more pentacostal or charismatic believers on the topic of the Holy Spirit. Is the gift of tongues, for example, a valid gift given to believers in Christ today or did it pass away with the apostles? Which Bible verses point to how the Holy Spirit works today in the world? How are these verses interpreted by various camps? I found it a helpful resource to know the arguments and their rationale so that I could make up my own mind about what to believe. It was logically laid out without the hype and emotion that can accompany such a controversial subject. I recommend this book to anyone wanting to take a clear-headed look at an issue that has polarised the church in the past. Lindsell's middle-of-the-road approach is most healing.
