A Classic Revisited!!

This is the re-publication of a timeless classic. Z has incorporated new material and photos. The photos of Masika's (Z's Mom) sculptures shows the talent that this line of Women have been blessed with. All Dianic homes should have a copy of this as reference material. The Holy Book is easy to read and understand. Feminists and Women world wide can relate to the various topics and appreciate the old ways of celebration of the Holy Days that have been shared here even if they have not chosen the Dianic path as their own. This work has and will continue to withstand time!!!! Kellie Matthews a/k/a Hazel Da Healer

The Book That Started It All

In a world full of metaphysical crap, this this is the one to read. Hands-down, Zsuzanna is the best. She is the real thing, a real witch from a long line of Hungarian witches. The Holy Book of Women's Mysteries is sadly an almost total unknown spiritual classic. If you have any intrest in Paganism, Goddess-craft, or Feminist Wicca this is the book for you. I was introduced to this book by a good friend, and have taken every oppertunity to pass THBOWM on to others. This book will change your life, I promise. All of Zsuzanna Budapest's books are incredible and well worth reading, but this is her masterpiece.

A Fantastic Educational & Spiritual Read

The Holy Book of Women's Mysteries is an essential read for all pagans, feminists and (dare I say) all spiritual women. This book is not about re-instating a matriarchy or tearing down patriarchy; it is about women's spirituality, and its relationship with politics and lifestyle. It educates the reader as to the reality of patriarchal and paternalistic society in which we live, and how it oppresses both women and men, spiritually and politically. It discusses matriarchal societies to a limited extent, but Z doesn't advocate women taking over - rather it's about restoring a balance of respect & equality between the sexes, particularly at the spiritual level. There is a lot of invaluable information on Dianic witchcraft and spells, including everyday magick, along with sabbat rituals, divination methods and an interesting section on how vegetarian theories and politics relate to witchcraft and the feminine aspect. There's plenty of information on Goddesses and how the patriarchal religions distorted old myths, as well as the Gods, to serve their own needs. There are also several beautiful Rites Of Passage for men and women that you don't often come across. Z's personal life stories are an equally valuable read. I highly recommend this book to pagans or anyone interested in learning about the pagan path, particularly as it relates to the feminine and Goddess aspects of witchcraft and wicca. It is a very interesting, intriguing and - most importantly - an educational read, whether or not you ultimately agree with Z's Dianic perspective. Indispensible, though perhaps not a beginners book. Beginners should check out Cunningham, Jennifer Hunter or Fiona Horne (Fiona's books are particularly useful for beginners in the southern hemisphere). This book - along with Starhawk's Spiral Dance - are indispensible resources on the Goddess aspects of paganism.

good book, great springboard

dianic witchcraft is the subject, women centered spirituality is the genre, necessity is the mandate. this text is a foundational tome for feminist witches everywhere. when read in context of the period of original writing (late 1970s California), strong emphasis on 'the patriarchy' is put in perspective. however, don't let that mean that you discount Z's perspective on the far reaching tentacles of this dominant global force. excellent spring board to thinking about spell casting and weaving goddess spirituality into your every day life.
