Another Winner

I thoroughly enjoyed The Widows so was excited to read The Hollows. I was not let down at all. This was every bit as good as the first story in the series. Ohio, 1926: an elderly woman is killed walking along the Moonvale Tunnel railroad tracks and newly elected Sheriff Lily Ross is called to investigate. Moonvale was an area that was part of the underground railroad that had helped slaves escape to the North. Lily, along with her friends Marvena Whitcomb and Hildy Cooper follow the woman's trail to The Hollows - a notorious asylum - and they begin exposing secrets that have been long hidden by time and the mountains. Add to this story the introduction of integration in the coal mines; the rise of the WKKK and the taboo topic (at the time) of interracial relationships and we have a powerful and very well written story that is a great follow up to The Widows. I am truly enjoying this series. I am now starting on the third book, The Stills.
