The Haunting of Cabin 13

This is a wonderful book. I couldn't put it down. It was reallyspooky. It would help you wonder about things that happened in thewoods. It also helps you be more of an investigator. I thought this book was extraordinary, because it was well-written and it tells step to step about the investigation. It's a very mysterious book. It has a lot of mysteries for you to wonder. I think this could have been based on a real life story. People could have a member in their family die and have to find who was behind it all. I recommend that people don't read this book at night, because it's going to be really scary. It's filled with adventures. The author has a cool imagination. It is really cool how she could image having blinking lights in caves. I would never have thought of that. That's interesting. The characters she made up are interesting. They all have different personalities, especially Laurie. From the cover of that book, I knew it was an invitation for me, that I must read this book. I recommend this book to people who likes to be scared. END

It was a hit with the 6th grade classes I read it to.

As a substitute teacher, I am always looking for things to motivate good behavior. I was able to read all of this book to Mrs. Moulden's class, a great group of 6th graders in Southwood Elementary, and everyone enjoyed it. One student was concerned she would not be able to hear all of the story and was therefore determined to try to find the book to read for herself. They enjoyed the humor and the suspense in equal proportions, and a few really got involved in trying to guess the answers to the mystery themselves. As an adult reader I liked the well-rounded characters and realistic inclusion of a handicapped character. I highly recommend this for young and young-at-heart readers.

A nice, balanced ghost story for children

This is a wonderful book to read, whether the reader believes in ghosts or not, because all the mystery and intrigue is solved in a logical way.The heroine of the story was, in fact, named after one of Kristi Holl's children, as were a few of the other characters. The book starts out as a typical family vacation into the northern part of Iowa, a place named "Backbone State Park", when the two girls find a warning note from a child that had died last year after staying in their very cabin--Cabin 13.The girls meet two brothers in Cabin 14, one of which is in a wheelchair. Together, they try to find out if the "ghost" had some idea as to who would cause her death, and if she left any evidence to prove anyone guilty. When the mystery is solved, the person who carried the most blame is the person no one would have suspected
