I loved this book.

The bad reviews for this book are surprising, because I thought it was fantastic. I've been destroying my hair for years trying to get it the shades I've fancied, or spending entirely too much money on results I was unhappy with. This book gave me the freedom to alter my hair on a whim (and I do get those often), without completely frying it. I've successfully gone from black-black hair to white-white hair (although the author does not recommend that) and had my hair every color in between. I'm extraordinarily happy with this book. It's easy to use, the directions are clear and concise, and if you follow the directions, you'll be happy with your results. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

this book is a godsend

I am amazed at the bad reviews, as I found this book to be a godsend. After 25 years of horrible colors by many different stylists, the last one just before an important engagement, I was so mad at every stylist who has ever given me orange hilights that I researched and found this book. I was very nervous,as I have only used semiperm haircolor myself in the past, but it washes out and leaves your hair slightly lighter. I decided I need to do the permanent haircolor. I did as she said, and read the book first. then I went back and reread sections I was unsure of. Yes, she says "virgin" haircolor but defines that as your own native, virgin color, not that you can't use her recipes on hair that has already been colored. My hair had already been colored, and it was that horrible caramel orange color that all styelists want to give to 50 year old woman, they either make us blonde or orange. You have to use some common sense and for the person who ended up with an orange mess you obviously did not do the test strip as she advises. Anyway, I was unsure if my native color was a 3 4 or 5, (it's a dark brown that pulls a lot of red) and my hair had been colored and highlighted to a caramel in various areas. I also have quite a bit of gray on the crown. After carefully reading the recipes for the milk chocalate I chose the the tab 5, thinking my native color was a 3 or 4, but with my gray she recommended using the recipe for tab 5. I did the foils to keep my some of my caramel highlights like she suggested (foil out) and the results are just amazing. I have never been happier with a result. It is very natural, and soft. Next time I am going to try the highlights, but first of course on a test area. YOu can always cover a small test area if you end up not liking it. Yes, there are limited colors but come on, how many colors are there actually for hair? She covers the basics and that's what I need. I don't want some weird color combination that only an "insider" tip would give me. No thanks, been there, done that and paid a lot of money for it and came home and colored over it. This book is awesome. You have to use your brains, think through what it is you have and what it is you want, and if you follow her basic recipes you will get it. Just be sure and do your test strip. As far as all the stuff she recommends you get before set up, I only got the stuff I needed for my particular recipe.

Great book for the at home colorist!

This is a great book. Due to the economic downturn, I have started coloring my hair at home, but I am disappointed because there's no "vavoom" after you finish with a regular box of haircolor, just blah color (but at least no grays!). This book is fantastic. I have Tab 6 hair, and I tried the Toasted Cinnamon recipe. I just love the result! The recipe was easy to follow. However, instead of using boxed coloring from the drugstore, I went to the beauty supply (with a copy of the book), and just matched the colors (light golden brown, light reddish brown, etc.). The sales associated helped me with one I was having trouble matching. This is a lot cheaper than buying at least one box of color from the drugstore everytime you need a retouch! Also, it did contain a small section on retouching, but I wish the author would have elaborated more for those who are not used to coloring their hair. However, overall, I think this is an excellent book, and it will give you results more like the salon!

Perfect

For the people who got bad results from the book, it is because they didn't carefully choose the right color for their original colored hair. You have to read the book carefully or else you will get the horrible results that they did. Like it says in the book, you have to find your OWND SHADE first. Anyways, if you read it carefully and have a little bit of imagination, it shares so many secrets. Lorri's recipes are brilliant.

Now Lorri's talents are available to everyone!

I love how to books, and this one is an easy to follow, detailed and creative book for all of us who color our hair at home and don't want boring at-home looking coloring. Thanks Lorri, for sharing your information and making celebrity color available to real people. I love your book!! A great gift idea for all your friends who use home hair color.
