Grievers have a pretty cool job!

The concept of becoming a griever (one who has seen someone die) in order to be able to see the supernatural world and the grimms that inhabit it was interesting. That is what drew me to this book first. It got me through the very common triangle of new girl (Everly) coming into powers and being extra special (ex: getting an omen early, though I do love Corvis and his cheekiness) and coming to the attention of best friend's older brother and at her new school, the resident bad boy. I did make faces a few times at the description of Everly melting to mush right in the middle of a fight for her life after spying Hunter in the crowd (really?!) but it got better, much better when she had the mystery of missing, dead, and injured people in the woods. Her dad had trained her for that kind of thing so it was fun to see her use her detective skills (especially when she fingerprinted an area even before the cops arrived after the break in). And was able to put everything together in time for the big finish, though there are definitely open questions (like Ian with his issue) that will need to be solved, probably in the next book. It will be nice to see what Stevens will do, and Kat is cool too and deserves more screen time. So, I will rate this a fun listen. The narrator did a great job in differentiating all the characters and brought them to life, making the world they inhabit a place that I mostly enjoyed (except for some dumb teenage choices) and I do want to find out what is next for the students of Gravemark and their future griever work.
