An Awesome Book

I really enjoy this book. It is tropical fun and festive. The first half of the book contains information and a picture of probably all of the mangos around the world, from A to Z, about 60 in all. WOW! Then the other half contains recipes from Drinks and starters, to Soups, Salads and main courses including fish, chicken and other meats. These juicy recipes vary from all over the world. Lastly, no recipe book is complete without desserts. There are not many, but a few, like all of the other recipes to give you great ideas of what to do with those delicious fruits. Ciao!

Word from Mango Country

The Author has done a good compilation on different varieties with good pictures and diagrams. The term "Mango" is unlikely to have originated from Portuguese as the Author has written. The Portuguese must have picked it up from the locals. The most likely origin is from Tamil a very ancient language spoken in southern parts of India where the unripe fruit is called "Manga".

The best mango book yet!

What can I say about a mango book? My most favorite fruit of all and one I have been collecting recipes and info for many, many years. To tell you how my mind works, when I see a recipe that calls for peaches, apricots or nectarines, my mind is already reading mango instead! The book starts with a small discussion on the different varieties of mangoes, with about 150 varieties, one of the most popular fruits in the whole world. It gives a great introduction to Chef Allen's conversion to mango afficionado and also a brief history of the fruit itself. There is a photo of chef Allen himself among baskets and baskets of dozens and dozens of different varieties during one of the (what is now yearly) Mango Days Festival at the Fairchild Tropical Garden's in Miami! Then the book goes on to describe each variety with color photos of each and some of the ways to slice them for exotic effect in food plates. The recipe section starts with 14 mouth-watering recipes for Beverages and Starters, on to Main Dishes, Condiments and some incredible Desserts. Another prized book in my growing collection of Tropical Fruit Books!

In one word -WOW

As the title suggests this is THE great Mango Book of the decade. If you've been looking forward to an updated mango digest after the classic 1930's 'Mango Encyclopedia/Dictionary then this is the book for you. However as a small footnote those of you with no prior experiance of mango jargo will better stay clear or buy the Junior Mango Encyclopedia before moving onto this heavier, more advanced and comprohensive account of the history of the Mango.

Who doesn't like mangos? Here's more reasons to Love!

I am nuts about mangos, they are one of my favorites, besides pineapple, cashews, and all fruits.I've been awaiting this offering from "The Great" series published by TenSpeed Press, who have to be one of the greatest culinary publishers of our times. Their books are so well done, and this by Chef Susser is no exception. It has fine photos of all the mango types, how to buy and store them, and recipes for their utilization.Of special note from the recipes are such as: Mango Frappe (a delicious iced mango drink of Grand Mariner, lime, honey, ice cream and mangos), Crab and Mango Salad (pictured in gorgeous stack fashion), Lamb Chops with Dried Mango and Ginger, and one that is to die for: Roast Pork Loin with Mango Mojo and Yellow Plantains. His dessert creativity is exceptional, with such scrumptuous offerings as Mango, Banana and Pistachio Strudel, Mango Sour Cream Crumb Cake, and Country Mango Tarts. This section certainly is strong, and many will turn to it as a sure source of raves from dessert partakers. A section on all kinds of condiments, salsa to ketchup to vinegar, etc. all with mangos. What an exceptional fruit, both in its fragrance, taste and visual appeal. When balanced with hot, spicy, this is a gourmet building block that is substantial as Susser so ably provides in this wonderful addition to mango lovers everywhere.
