In 1964, a young newspaper reporter encountered a huge, ugly, headless monster along a lonely stretch of road late one night at Grafton, West Virginia. With the help of friends, he further investigated the incident and wrote two articles for the newspaper that were to appear on the following days. The result was not what he expected as his newspaper severely edited the article and distorted his story. The resulting cover-up kept the story from getting out for over a half-century. Recent interest in the topic has revived the curiosity of those still searching for the truth. Only those that frequent the local senior citizen center know what really happened back in the day. The author recently went back in to find out the story behind the elusive Grafton Monster.
