This was about a young Kit Brandon rescued a baby girl from disaster, he and his mother disguised her true identity and raised her as a family. Fifteen years later, Kit became an infamous buccaneer also known as Captain Lucifer, when Damaris' uncle, Earl of Chelsham, known as Golden Panther, a man whom some feared and hated, accidentally discovered her whereabouts. Here was where battle of wits began. I really enjoyed this book, it had mixture of ingredients to made it an interesting read, but I particularly liked Ms. Thorpe's writing--her description of scenery, ships, events of happenings, and most of all the feelings of characters, made everything so real and touching. Especially at end of the story, I was happy to let out a sigh of contented relief. My only criticism was that I wish Damaris could take a better control of the situation, show some spirit, and be the mistress of her life, instead of been lead by her uncle and others who want to prosperous from her.
