This book is a beautiful and melancholic recollection of photos from an era that is forgotten by most. As I am completely drawn to the Victorian and Edwardian Eras, this book is perfect and holds a special place on my bookshelf.
Couldn't have said it better myself ...

From Nigel Nicolson's foreward: "This book, by preserving irreplaceable documents that might soon be lost, illustrates nearly one hundred years of the British upper-class life-style to supplement the written record. From the very beginning the photographs are often beautiful, sometimes funny, invariably tender. Mr. Sykes's enjoyment in collecting and selecting them is as evident as that of the photographers who thus immortalized, by the click of a shutter, their families and friends."
