Finally I understand!!!!! The Giles family explained,
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 19 years ago
For anyone with British heritage or family you probably know, or have been bought up with Giles cartoons. We used to get the annuals every year and I have read them avidly (although hardly understanding much of them as they were all about British events. However much of what was there fascinated me even as a child. The details, the humanity of it. Finally Peter Tory has gone back through the old cartoons, and talked to Giles himself and in this edition explained the family itself. It actually started back in 1945 and was a representative family of the post war years - the memhers are all named and their relationship with one another discussed (I didn't realise they all had names!) There is even confirmation that Anne (the eldest daughter) is the mother of the illegitimate twins, a result of a yankee soldier in Britain's Wartime efforts. There is even a family tree drawn - as a tree! Giles own family is here and includes pictures of him as a child, his mother and a potted history of his life. at 192 pages it is just enough to cover the familys major moments, and those of British current events, and give a variety of situations that they have gone through. It has a couple of colour cartoons in here as well. I am so glad to get this! It is an illustrated history, and an illuminating one at that. Highly recommended!
