The Gift

Trevor Malloy loves women - all sorts of women. What he doesn't love is how hard he has to work on his family's ranch. After walking out and going on a two day binge of liquor and women before being confronted by his brothers, he decides to leave the ranch and his family behind and make his living as a professional gambler. Adelaide Burns, owner of the Last Chance Saloon in Cheyenne, is a champion poker player and considers herself immune to the wiles of handsome gamblers. Then Trevor walks into her saloon and sits down at her table - and she is no longer so sure that she can resist this handsome cowboy, no matter who wins the pot. The Gift is actually my first exposure to Beth Williamson's historical western romances and, despite a small amount of trepidation, I have to admit that I loved it. The characters sucked me entirely into their lives and situations. The complex and often turbulent relationships in the Malloy family are compelling and kept me wondering. Adelaide is no one's simpering miss or soiled dove. She is a strong woman in a time that requires strength. The plot is intricate, but without so many players that the romance is removed from center stage and just when I thought things were settled, Beth had another obstacle waiting for me. I'm not normally a reader of western historicals but after reading The Gift, I've added Beth's other books in the Malloy series to my list of books to buy. Maura reviewed for Joyfully Reviewed

The Malloy series is GREAT!

I read the entire series and loved each and every book. Not the most erotic - true - BUT some very HOT spots and lots of wonderful dialogue and family interaction. I would recommend this series to anyone looking for true 'calgon take me away' reads.

Five Blue Ribbons from Romance Junkies!

Trevor Malloy is fed up with being one of the younger sons in the Malloy family. Constantly hounded to work the ranch, he finds himself wanting to leave and get away. When he gets into an argument with his older brother, his patience ends and he sets out on his own intending to go south to visit a family friend. Heading into a saloon for a drink and an easy game of poker, Trevor finds himself entranced and captivated by his female dealer. So much so that not only does he lose at cards, but he might have also just lost his heart. Adelaide Burns knows all too well what pretty cowboys can do to a woman; especially the handsome cowboy who just walked into her saloon. Giving permission for Mr. Studly to join the poker game she is dealing, Adelaide decides to use her feminine charms to her advantage, hoping to make the confident pretty boy lose his money. Five thousand dollars later, the cowboy is all hers. Trevor is unable to fathom that he lost at cards. Never one to shirk a bet, he settles in to do Adelaide's bidding until he can repay the money he owes. No matter how long it takes. He has no idea that what starts out as a payback will turn into a lifetime of loving. THE GIFT, in true Beth Williamson style, swept me away for a wonderful afternoon of reading. Secretly smiling at Trevor's dilemma, I adored him for the charmer and bad boy he is, and I applauded him for the man he becomes. Adelaide quickly gained my respect for her strong independence and her capable self-reliance. As a woman on her own, she depends on no one for her life, welfare or happiness. While both main characters tried not to fall for the other, their realization of a mutual love was truly beautiful. THE GIFT by Beth Williamson is the fifth book in her Malloy Family series. I had eagerly anticipated Trevor's story, and I was not disappointed in the least. I enthusiastically await each Malloy Family installment that Ms. Williamson releases. They are just that well written and entertaining. For a truly wonderful western historical, THE GIFT should not be missed!
