The Giant Germ

This book is one of my student's favorite books. Check out his review below: The Giant Germ This book is about Ms. Frizzle's class going in Keesha's sandwich. The fifth graders find the sandwich on the floor and they put it in the garbage. They see microbes in the sandwich. The Giant Germ teaches you about germs. My first piece of evidence is it teaches you how germs make you sick if there is green fungi in the food you eat. This teaches you about germs because it tells you how it can maek you sick. My second piece of evidence is it teaches you how long germs lived on on earth. Microbes have been on earth for at least 3.5 billion years. That's longer than plants, dinosaurs, or any other living thing on the plante. Human beings didn't appear untli just 2 million years ago. My last piece of evidence is it teaches you what forms germs. These are microbes fungi, bacteria, protoa, and viruses. This teaches you about germs because it tells you what forms germs. The Giant Germ teaches you about germs. If you want to learn about germs READ THIS BOOK TODAY!

Good for Microbiology, weak on Bio-Chem

Ms. Capeci explains the basics of microbiology and the structure and behavior of bacteria, but she entirely neglects RNA recombination. This is a shame, because RNA recombination is the most interesting part of microbiology. The bio-chem is a little weak.I will say, however, that I have cribbed bits of this book for my thesis.

Great introduction to Microbiology

It uses the common language to explain what is a germ. I think it is a great introductory book for young reader on the subject of microbiology. It does have all the latin names and need some help with adults (or dictionary) for proper pronounciation. The only little disappointment I feel about this one is the note for proper pronounciation of those scientific names of microbes and taxonomy (only a few).
