This little book is packed with information for the gardener wanting to add small trees to the landscape. About half of the book is dedicated to general information, caring for the tree, pruning, etc. Listing 100 trees, this is a larger-than-usual directory of trees for books of this type that I have reviewed. Each tree gets 1 page and each page is packed with well-organized, easy to read information. Don't look for prose here. In the tree directory, there is no flowery text, just the facts. There are a couple of minuses: One is the lack of color photos. The directory of trees uses small - but useful - drawings of mature specimens. This makes choosing a tree harder, with the reader having to read about the colors and trying to visualize the actual tree. The lack of selector tables, something found in most modern tree books, is also a weakness. There are a couple here and there, but there could be more, more entensive ones. Overall, I think most people will find this to be a very useful handbook.
