I think this was a reasonably informative book and a pretty enjoyable read. I found the third part of the book "Basic Gamefish Technique," which is organized by species to be most informative. This information depicts where in the U.S. a given type of fish is located; the types of lures, baits, and the techniques effective for the fish; as well as, how the seasons effect the fish. This is valuable information and is concisely and effectively delivered. The first two parts of the book on "Understanding Fish" and "Fishing Equipment" to be not particularly informative and rather shallow. They cover choosing the right boat and using it in 2 pages to give an example. On the plus side, the book does discuss the various places Americans are likely to fish which I found to be refreshing from the idealized generalities usually found in fishing books. Knots are depicted fairly effectively with pictures of knots in various stages of construction.
