I picked this book up from my local Borders on a whim. On a whole, the first volume is a little confusing but very entertaining. You have three main characters Kotaro, Ree, and Lord Wildeniss a.k.a. "Wil." Kotaro is a boy who was put into suspended anmimation because the world was "dying." As the story progress you get a taste of his past and how he's adapting to waking up to a world where humans are heading towards extinction and andriods rule. Despite the fact that little is revealed about Kotaro, his mannerisms and expressions are just funny and adorible. I fell in love with him right away. I can't wait for vol 2, which will reveal more about his character. The other main characters, Wil and Ree, are intriging. Wil is a human prince with no country to rule while Ree is a "retired" army andriod. (Don't be confused by the many names Ree is refered to with.) They are both searching for Kotaro because of the memories he posses of the "ancient" civilization (the time period Kotaro is from). Wil is distant and sad, though we don't know why in vol 1. We only get hints of his past. Ree is the same, but he suffers because he is losing his memories of a friend. Overall, their characters are only just developing. You get enough in volume one to get you attached and wanting more. As for plot, there is little of it until volume 2. Vol 1 is mainly introducing you to the characters. The artwork is pretty, but nothing stunning. The facial expressions are very cute and there are plenty of funny moments throughout the manga. I can't wait for volume 2 to be released and we get to learn more about the characters and more plot advancement. If you're looking for a new series to start reading, than look no further than The Flat Earth/Exchange.
