This book is the result of a challenge I made to myself about writing a fictional story as a retirement project, which ended up being based upon a real area on the central coast of California with enormous sand dunes. These dunes are a special place, and the home to an eclectic group of people that lived there from the early 1900s to the mid-1960s. They were known as the Dunites. I picked a character from that group that to me looked like a hippie...
