The Fifties in 150

Very loosely the photos in this book following these themes: kids; teens; college (including Southern integration) women's suburban life; celebrities; autos; military; blue collar and politics. I've had the book for some years and every time I look through it I think 150 do capture the feel of the period, as much for the selection as for the famous photographers who took them. Some of the images are well known but mostly they are from Magnum files and this raises an interesting point: none standout particularly because they all reflect the high degree of creativity and professionalism that you would expect from the world's leading photo agency. All the photos are black and white and presented one to a page in a format dictated by the interest aspect of each image though the dominant shape is landscape. I always thought is was a shame that they are only printed in a rather coarse screen (133) on a matt paper when they deserve to be printed on a good art paper as 250dpi duotones to really show of the quality that is obviously there.
