He was forced to plead guilty to a lesser charge, to avoid a much longer prison sentence. Joe was thrown out of the priesthood for having an affair with a married woman in his first parish, her name was Martha Reynolds, and when she is brutally murdered, Joe becomes the primary suspect. His temporary release from prison offers him a second chance at life, and more importantly a second chance to set the record straight on who murdered Martha Reynolds.
