A great study tool

A great read for those new to the Jehovah's Witnesses and their governing body, the Watchtower. The book examines the Watchtower's flawed history, doctrines, and New World Translation. It also gives useful tips and verses to use when talking with a Witness. Not reccomended if you already own Mr.Ankerburg's "Facts On" book, because much of the same information is presented here. However this book is more current, and has a little more info than the "Facts On" book. I use this book for study quite often, and anyone wanting to know more about the JW's will not be dissapointed.

Just a thought........

I just wanted to ask the "Jehovah's Witnesses" who made commments on this website, if the "Elders" (or head church members -for those people who do not know the term) knew that they had read this book. From what I know as a former Jehovah's Witness, a true Jehovah's Witness cannot read books like this one because the group considers this type of book as "apostate material" that is unfit for a true Christian to read. Any Jehovah's Witness that did read the book is actually going against the church and could be severely punished for doing so. My point is, do not make any judgements on this book without actually reading it first and try to look at it with an 'unbaised' attitude. If a person cannot seperate their strong feelings one way or the other toward the group, I do not believe they are able to give a 'unbiased' opinion on how beneficial or non-beneficial this book really is.

Helpful book

I was amazed at how John Ankerberg compiled a list of what well-known and respected Greek scholars had to say after reviewing The New World Translation. Christian and non-Christian scholars alike said it was full of mistranslations. It will break your heart to read how this organization has lied and deceived so many sincere people.

O boy

People, I can't believe these totally unscholarly reviews. First of all, not everyone has an opportunity to interview a Jehovah's Witness, so not everyone can get the facts from them. Number two, Jehovah's Witnesses are sure to be ignorant (whether willfully or not) of the history of lie-telling the watchtower has. Number three, this book is a fairly good introduction to JW doctrines and beliefs. Good expose of the NWT "Translation." Nice summary of JW history. The defense of the Trinity they offer is weak in some areas, but all in all this is a good book and a good buy. Whoever it was that accused Dr. Ankerberg of being a liar is quite wrong. Dr. Ankerberg is an exemplary Christian who I myself look up to. In fact, he's the guy who got me into apologetics. (Different story.) Anyway, I highly recommend this book as an introduction the Jehovah's Witness doctrine.

Reviews do not fit your guidelines

The preceding reviews, particularly the first one, seem to consist ENTIRELY of attacks on the author (IE calling him "one of the most prolific liars in the religion business". The author should be given space to react to these attacks.
