I picked up the first Portraits of Destiny book because of the name THOENE on the cover. Until I got home I did not realize this was Jake and Luke Thoene. I started to read and could not put the book down! This is a time period that reminds me of the Patrick O'Brien novels. Very well researched and a tremendous tale of England and France in the early 1800's. This is a book anyone who likes historicals will enjoy.
A great story/ true Thoene writing!

In a Christian publishing market crammed with writers who only seem to be in it for the money, the books by the Thoene brothers are a wonderful and refreshing change. Brothers writing about brothers who lived in the age of Napoleon and great sea battles...what an incredible subject! The internal conflicts between the two main characters ring true. The conflicts they have in their hearts as young men reflect what we all go through. The action is superb. The dialogue and description are authentic and brought me into the time and place. I will be reading much more of Jake and Luke Thoene novels in the near future. They are truly wonderful storytellers.
This book is a gripping historical novel
