The overall goal of this book is to assist husbands toward purposeful and lasting Christ-likeness for the glory of God. He created marriage to be a picture of the relationship between Christ and the church. It was written to be a companion book for The Excellent Wife. Couples who commit to the biblical principles presented in these books will find a oneness in marriage that will give God glory and bring His blessing.
To be perfectly fair, there are some good points in this book. But, overall I find the author to be very hypocritical. He seems to think he and his Church Group has all of the answers and doesn't even broach at least one Biblically important type of marriage. I find this book to be repulsive in the author's know-it-all attitude. Anyone interested in buying this book from me? Yeah, I wouldn't buy it either after making the mistake of buying it once for sure. Want a really good book for marriage?
Try the revised edition of "Me? Obey Him" by Elizabeth Rice Handford. I only found one thing that was wrong in that book.
Best of Genre

This is the best book of this genre, in my view. Well written, clear and Biblical. If I could only keep one book on being a Christian husband (and I have many), it would be this book.
A Must Have for any Man
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 17 years ago
If you're looking for a practical, applicable book on what a man of God looks like, how he thinks and works, all based on scripture rather than some man's ideas... get this book. Very helpful foundation of Christian beliefs as well as daily living examples and ideas to put your faith into daily life! I wish I'd had this book as a single teen, during pre-marriage counseling, as a new husband and as a new father.
A good book for general discipleship also.

This book is more about how a man can live a Biblically based life than specifically how to be a good husband. Perhaps 10-15 percent of the book is specific to the marriage relationship. That makes it a great book for discipling men in general. All areas of life and relationships in general are covered with specific strategies for overcoming sin to the glory of God (e.g. See your sin biblically and put-off/put-on). Highly recommended. BTW, for a book specific to the marriage relationship, I recommend The Complete Husband by Lou Priolo

The best book I have ever read.

I just finished reading "The Exemplary Husband". I cannot thank Dr. Stuart Scott enough for this book. It is so thorough. I will read it again and again. The book has so much in it that it should be read slowly to really absorb and capture the Biblical perspective for the husband. Dr. Scott's extensive use of Bible exerpts is the core of why this book works! Finally, I am beginning to understand the the true role of the husband. My wife and I are Catholic and I used to have pretty much an "I'm the boss" attitude or "you should listen to me because I am the husband". I must admit that at first, parts of the book were a little hard to swallow - especially with respect to intimacy and lust. But after careful prayer and reflection I have come to understand how selfishness can really destroy a relationship and even one's feelings of self worth. "The Exemplary Husband" has been so helpful for improving my relationship with Christ, God, and my wife. This book should be mandatory reading for all husbands. This contemporary book is one of the most valuable tools any man could have to help insure marital harmony. Thank you Dr. Scott!
