This biography really fills in a few gaps I had been missing over the years. Don claimed in their documentary, "Harmonies From Heaven," that their split was because of political differences. That may have caused friction in their later years, but that is not why they broke up in 1973. Choice of booking venues and song selections caused conflict, and mainly, Don recording a solo album without Phil's knowledge while they were still recording together in 1970. This bio really gives insight to their idiosyncrasies and helps you understand where each of them was coming from during their tumultuous relationship. White even tactfully addressed Don's "illness" back in 1962. The only thing missing is an explanation as to why Phil's acoustic guitar was never plugged in, like Don's, during live performances. What is extra special about this whole book is that there are direct quotes from cover to cover from Don and Phil, commenting on recordings, tours, and everything in between. The author wrote this in cooperation with them and they both ended up endorsing it as being factual, not speculative. Can't ask for anything more than that. I usually try to resell my books after reading them, but not this one. It's a keeper!
