The best of the recent Destroyer books!

I really enjoyed this book. The plot was not overly complex, but not overly simple either. Sure, the villains were thin, but so what? I loved the idea of the WWII planes being used, and I also loved the fact taht we got to see Smitty kick some butt! I fear for the ol' guy...It's obvious the way Mullaney's writing him that he's on his last legs. I do, however, also look on that with some excitement, curious to see how things will pan out if Smith dies. The Destroyer is once again in good hands!

It doesn't take 37 steps to enjoy this book!

The Destroyer series is coming back full steam (probably from the duck in the kitchen). I have been collecting this series for 22 years and was very dissatisfied with the recent writing style, shallow humor and Remo's continued melancholy attitude. The Fatherland Files series within a series has given the Destroyer a punch he hasn't had lately. While the use of Nazi villains is a thin plot, the love/hate relationship between Remo and Chium is coming back, Chiun's ego is larger than ever (as is his self proclaimed modesty) and the involvement of Maude Smith in the book was a nice touch. Finally, the smiley faces remind me of the humour of books long past. I loved it.

This book was back on track 100%. Relationships between characters were excellent. I even found myself laughing out loud - something I haven't done with a Destroyer book for a loooong time. I'm looking forward to #114.

The new Author keeps getting better...

Jim Mullaney keeps on improving the series. Second in a four part mini-series, we have plenty of action, a set-up for the next book, and no stupid character mistakes that plagued the books a few issues back.

the master is pleased

i wrote another review for this book some time ago but i suspect it was intercepted by Friend. "empire dreams" is the best of the recent books. really good read. "bamboo dragon" hadd me worried but the last two or three issues have just been getting better and better. Praise the house of Sinanju!
