A heartfelt paradigm shift

"What I learned is that most conflicts are rooted in misunderstandings, and that misunderstandings are not just innocent mistakes. They're often caused by a stubborn refusal to understand or consider another's point of view" (pg 109). This book is written in masterful narrative yet practical style. Tom's personal experiences and journey to a truly empathetic business model is a must read for wants to make a difference. It has opened my eyes to a new paradigm - It's taught me through experience how to THINK in other's shoes.

important read for any business owner or sales professional

Very engaging read! Three parts of the book that struck home with me. First, thinking about the "3 levels" of empathy - reminded me as I go through the process of strengthening my business partnerships to bear in mind what is most important to that individual, and how I can address the concerns and worries they are facing on a daily basis. Second, terrific focus on being empathetic inside your own company and team. How many times have we heard the stories about a superstar sales person whose own employees or team can't stand them. Reminded me to make sure that although I am busy, I must stay in tune with the needs and concerns of my team and those around me. Third, in the section where Tom gives a frank admission that he just "didn't get" the way the accountants were presenting information to him- and basically saying, "Hey - its OK! I'm not wired that same way, and it doesn't mean I'm stupid." Tom lays out that it is not only OK to ask for information to be presented in a way that allows you to make decisions effectively, that you really have a responsibility to do so as the leader of an organization or sales team.

"I feel your pain!"

When I was a boy, my father told me that "If you want to catch a fish, you need to think like one." Tom Ward is giving the same lesson to adults about how to better understand each other, in both business and personal situations. As a business ceo of many years' experience, I found his work refreshingly frank, with workable advice that is useful. His book advises how to truly understand potential clients' desires. Intertwined with the lessons are many stories of his own journey that ultimately led, via increased empathy, to greatly enhanced selling... and powerful results. By reading Tom's book, and following his advice, he is allowing us to leapfrog over the pain that he endured in his quest, and reap the benefits of his knowledge.

The Empathy Effect

This book is one of the best I have read on "empathy". Every business owner should read this book on how to create a a company culture that is customer-centric. One of the best things I like about the book are the personal stories he shares with the reader. As a person who has created several businesses myself, I can relate to every single one of them. It's a MUST read.

The Empathy Effect will change the way you do life!

While this book might be self-published it should not be ignored for that reason, it's a book that can literally change the way you do business, for the good. More than a rag to riches story which in itself is motivational Tom shares how "The Empathy Effect" can lead to higher profitability. If your a leader or manager of people this is a must read, if your in sales implementing what is taught in this book will be the success factor that sets you apart from the competition. Bottom line... Tom will help you build your business and wealth as you learn to put yourself in other people's shoes.
