Yes, this book is about the human spirit: the author's spirit, the spirit of his friends who flew B-24s with him, and even the spirit of a German ME-109 pilot. The author gives a no-frills account (offering little historical information) of what he went through as a POW somewhere near Weiner-Neustadt, Austria. Readers should have working knowledge of WWII history, or at least be willing to learn about it, but even if they don't, this story is compelling enough to keep them reading.
