Great No Non-sense Book

I've had a fear of flying since I was a child... I can remember my grandmother offering to take us to Disney, but I wouldn't go because I was convinced the planes would crash mid-air. I finally took my first flight 15 years later in 2004, and have been flying a few times a year since then. Even though I powered through it, the whole thing -- from the first thought of taking a vacation until the plane finally landed at the very end of the trip -- was so stressful. I just finished Allen Carr's book, and let me tell you, I feel so much better about flying. He is so straight-forward and direct, yet at the same time he will tell you your fears are normal and rational. He goes through, point by point, the main reasons people have the fear then he proceeds to demystify them. I recommend this book to anyone! It was easy to read, and it was to the point. I finished it in a few days. I liked this book so much that I ordered his weight-loss book. Kudos, Mr. Carr!

Free to travel!!

My first plane ride was in 1996 when I was 20 years old. The only way I made it through was to literally convince myself that I was going to die, there was nothing I could do about it and I should make my peace with God. By 30, I needed prescriptions like adavan to even get near the airport. An upcoming flight meant an upset stomach, sweating and more than one episode of diarreah. Even with medication, take-off meant silently crying while pretending to sleep. Now no more! I had already read the Easy Way for Women to Stop Smoking and succeeded beyond my wildest dreams, so I thought 'what the heck, I'll give it a try'. I finished the last page as the plane taxied down the runway. I didn't take any medication (except dramamine for motion-sickness). Now my only fear is becoming nauseated by turbulence. Interestingly, I experience the absolute worst turbulence on that flight--worse than the most pot-hole filled road I have ever driven down. But I was still fine. No panic attacks, no silent sobbing and fearing for my life, no medication. I am now free to schedule my vacations without dreading the flight there and back. I am so elated that I am free!! I highly recommend this book to anyone with a fear of flying, it is also helpful for acrophobics and claustrophobics (like me). I cannot recommend this book enough. I am now saving up for a flight to Europe--a dream I had long ago given up as impossible because of my fear. Please read this book and start enjoying your vacations!!
