When Trevor Phillips finally returns home to claim his inheritance, he's astonished to find the estate in shambles. Still, he has no great desire to be rusticating in the country and it's only the enchantingly beautiful--and shockingly young--Dowager Duchess, Sara, who captures the rake's very masculine interest. But while Trevor is determined to lure Sara into his arms, she is equally determined to entice this confirmed bachelor into doing his duty by finding him a bride. Trevor has made it quite clear that nothing could be more boring than to marry a nice debutante and produce an heir. And in Sara he discovers a passionate woman who is unlike any other he's ever known. But what he hasn't yet told her is that he has a plan of his own...and her future depends on her answer to his proposal.
This is my first Malia Martin book. Put it this way...I'm only on page 110 ( not even half way through) and it's absolutely WONDERFUL!!! I had to comment on it! (This is also the first time I have written a comment.)I think "Dull, Dull, Dull" in Singapore doesn't know how to appreciate a different take on a character. Something Miss Maring has truly done! As much as I love historical romances, there are only so many scenarios to write. And while 'arrogance, looks, & breeding' are all great...to a point, Trevor is a wonderully 'human' and DIFFERENT approach to "boy meets girl, boy saves girl, boy & girl live happily ever after!"I look forward to searching our more of Ms. Martin's work! But for now...back to my book! Thank you! =)
A wonderful book!

I loved this book because it was a little different than all the historical romance books I've read. Sara was older than the duke, which was a new twist that I liked and she was widowed, which made the love scenes unlike the rest that I've read where the heroine is a virgin. I also thought Trevor was a gentle, loving person, instead of the rakish rogue books usually portray. It was a great read! I couldn't put it down.
Wonderfully Romantic

Malia Martin creates wonderful characters that stay with you long after the last page. I loved this book! I can't wait for her next.
Malia's "Beta" Heroes are unlike any others...

I just finished Malia Martin's second novel, The Duke's Return, and am again blown away by how incredibly unique, special, and surprising her heroes can be. This time, It's Trevor ... he's a complete rake (OK, that's nothing new) ... but wait, he is also desperately trying to cope with a weakness that's plagued him his whole life ... Ms Martin is masterful at creating a heroine who compliments him, as his foil, and together they are truly complete, vanquishing both their doubts and weaknesses in the power of their love. Highly recommended!
malia martin has done it again!

I loved Ms. Martin's first book, HER NORMAN CONQUEROR, and with THE DUKE'S RETURN she has once again impressed and entertained this reader. Her characters are very real and appealing and her unique stories stay with me long after closing her books. I'd recommend both of these books to any fans of historical romance and I'll be looking forward to reading Ms. Martin's third.
