One of my Favorite Regencies of all Time

The female main character is an actress and encounters a Duke who desires her as his mistress. He develops a ruse to get her to meet him. She participates in the ruse, which is quite funny, but never gives in to the Duke. The Duke eventully realizies that he will need to marry her. It is very romantic how he woos her. Good development of secondary characters.
