A young weaver in twelfth-century China saves her people from drought and foreign invasion by weaving the imperial dragon's robe. This description may be from another edition of this product.
This beautifully illustrated hardcover children's book is loosely based on one of the emperors of ancient China. It is not a long story, but it is replete with fantasy, dragon mythology, and the deep values of honesty, responsibility, and loyalty. As an educator (7th grade English), I found it useful for identifying and examining the use of cause and effect in literature. The Dragon's Robe is also a great springboard for discussion on the ethical standards of the four characters in the story. Also, since the protagonist/hero is Kwan Yin, a woman, it supports the concept of gender equality which I promote in my classroom. Sadly, this book is out of print. Many children will be missing out on this perfect read-aloud book.
