My review: Dragon Queen by Alice Borchardt

This is a non-stop thriller, showing what all readers want: a little romance, a easily understood storyline that is based somewhat on history, and some frightening parts that keep you on the edge of your seat. Overall, it was a good book. I read it in 3 days, and I'm 11.

Loved it, loved it, loved it!

I love stories of King Arthur, and stories of Guinevere are even better! Well written, this book sucked me in. I read it faster than I've read anything in ages! I hope this series lasts longer than just the trilogy.

I love this book!

Don't listen to the people who didn't "get it" or couldn't "follow it". Go to the book store and read the Prologue. If those two pages don't speak to you, you don't deserve the riches the book has to offer.

An unexpecting re-imagining of Guinviere

I found this to be a refreshing and wonderful approach to the Arthurian legend. Guiniviere is not a simpering woman or a token player, she is the story. Marion Zimmerman's Guin was irritating; Kim Newman's Guin was smart and well rounded, but a reactive rather than proactive character. In Borchardt's Guin we see a strong Queen who we cannot imagine by the end of this first book as the tragic woman who leads to Arthur's downfall. The story if the same, the journey is diffrent.

Outstanding!

This is an absolutely fascinating tale of Guinevere, brilliantly written and told from the perspective that she was not just another pretty face, but a force to be reckoned with in her own right. Those who do not like tales of powerful women or the rewriting of a beloved legend may not like this book; however, Arthur is not slighted in this novel at all and proves himself to be a worthy consort, surviving trials of his own. The secondary characters, be they shape-shifting wolves, dragons, or Druids, are fabulous and extremely well-developed. A caution: It may be a bit unsettling to see Merlin as a villian, especially if you have read Mary Stewart's wonderful "The Crystal Cave" and its sequels.Borchardt is an amazing story teller, and this book will leave you breathlessly awaiting the two sequels in the trilogy. Highly recommended!
