Long Live Kang

Draconians. A race of dragonmen created from stolen eggs of good dragons, and very powerful and dark magic. Draconians first appeared in Dragons of Autumn Twilight, and now after the Chronicles they star in their own novel: The Doom Brigade. I had recieved the Doom Brigade as a Cristmas present. When I saw that it was written by Maragret Weis, I knew it was going to be something. The main character of the story is the bozak draconian named Kang, who along with his fellow draconians is learning what it means to live a somewhat peaceful life. However there are many conflicts that disrupt that...the neighboring dwarves, the regiment of dark knights they inlist with for a short time, and an unknown threat that seeks to destroy the world of Krynn. However hope remains, as Kang discovers the location of where some female draconian eggs might be found. Needless to say, this book is great. Like in all of her other novels, Maragret puts together a cast of incredible and unique characters. In a sense there are no "good guys" in the story, but Kang plays a pretty good character who you will cheer for all the way. The plot in itself is pretty good, and it sets up for the future events in the Dragonlance story. I encourage any Dragonlance fan to pick up this novel.

The Doom Brigade

"The Doom Brigade" by the husband and wife team of Margaret Weis and Don Perrin features the life and times of an eccentric group of Draconians during the same time period as "Dragons of Summer Flame". These draconians have made a small little settlement, and have managed to live a reletively peaceful life in the mountains. They only have to deal with a dwarf raid every once in a while. The authors of this book do an amazing job portraying Draconians as more than just the killers they were portrayed like in the first Dragonlance books. It is nice to read a book from their point of view, seeing exactly what they feel and think about the other races on Krynn. This books has an amazing storyline, and is full of enuogh action and adventure to keep any fantasy reader hooked. There is tons of humor in this book. All of the characters have their own personality which is nice to see. The main characters in this book, including Kang (the lead Draconian), and his right hand man..err..Draconian, Slith, are all nicely developed and portrayed well. The story and characters keep this book a fun read all the way though. It is one of the better books in the Dragonlance world. Not only are the characters fun to read about, but it is also fun to read from the other side for once. Seeing the story through the eyes of Draconians and not through the eyes of the "Good Guys".

The Other Side

This story is a nice break from the usual stories about "the good guys". It shows a side of the draconians that one would usually not think about. It is very entertaining and has lots of action at the same time. I highly recommend it. It's one of my favorite stories of Krynn.

Evil People Have Feelings Too!

A few Christmas's ago, I put on my Christmas list "Dragonlance-The Chaos War Series", thinking it the title of the triliogy with such titles as "The Dawning of a New Age", etc. Instead, I received two books that really held the title. Among them was a vibrantly-colored novel entitled "The Doom Brigade", which caught my eye because of the dragon on the cover. It was the best mistake I ever made. Before I read The Doom Brigade, I had always pictured draconians as pure evil, and not once considered that they were creatures that had feelings. My thoughts and stereotypes were immediatly changed after the first chapter(Which I had sampled upon my completion of "Dragons of Summer Flame"). One thing that especially piqued my interest was the prospect of the female draconians, and the story as to how they were never born. Kang, the roughly 200 draconian's leader as well as the subcommander Slith are suprisingly easy to understand, they are so well portrayed by the authors. What makes this story so intriguing is the way you see bits of the War of the Lance through the other side's point of view. Being recently given the technical term of "teenager", the question of how others see things should be interesting to apply in real life. If you don't own this book already, you seriously need to obtain a copy as soon as possible! It has personally replaced "Mariel of Redwall" as my all-time favorite!

An intresting books telling of the draconian race

At the fateful battle at the Dark Queen's Temple at the end of the War of the Lance, A regiment of draconians left the army to it's doom. Now, 25 years later, they see a doom fast approaching them. The leader of the draconians sees death aproaching his race, not in the form of war, for that would be an honor, but from the lack of children. All the draconians are male, and as his second in command points out, "what is it going to matter to us?" Then Kang learns of the Chaos War, and what could happen, that nothing would be left to even remember them, and he recieves an order from his Queen, Takhisis, to travel into Thorbardin and destroy the Fire Dragons that are forming their. By the end of the book, Kang finds something so important to his race, that he would give his life to protect and keep it... He finds the way for his race to continue and survive.
