I found this book to be very helpful as an aspiring Baal Teshuva. It taught me quite a bit and I found it reader-friendly, and would recommend it to anyone having interest in this subject, from the Chabad viewpoint.

"The Divine Commandments" is an explanation of the purpose of the Torah's commandments (mitzvoth) according to Chabad Chassidism. Mindel explains how the commandments sanctify oneself and the world, discussing such topics as the purpose of creation and divine providence. The book is written elegantly and with great clarity, especially given the difficulty of the subject matter. Those - like me - unfamiliar with Chabad may find some sections difficult, but nevertheless understand the main point. Despite its brevity, the book distils a lot of profound thought and does so beautifully. I recommend it to anyone interested in Chabad, and anyone else wanting to understand the mitzvoth. Readers may also be interested in the approach of Hirsch's "Horeb".
