A must read

Every human being should read this book and at least attempt to put it into practice. It rings a resounding 'yes, this is actually the correct way to live' with a turn of each page. The world would be a different place if we could each give this some effort.

A book that will make a difference in your personal life

Richard Taylor's little book exposes one of the greatest needs of our generation. I have found it a helpful guide over the years to return me to the only path by which there can be any true accomplishment. I remember the first time I read The Disciplined Life. I noticed that the final chapter was titled "How to Become a Disciplined Person." I turned to that chapter first only to discover that the author was wise to people like me. On the first page of the chapter I read "Some of you will spot the title of this chapter while scanning the contents and, recognizing that becoming a disciplined person is the goal, will suppose that to read only this chapter will be sufficient. Such an attempt may be symptomatic of your need of discipline. The undisciplined person is forever seeking ways to avoid the arduous grind of solid work and to arrive quickly at his goal by short cuts." Touché! I had been found out. As have others, I have had difficult lessons to learn in the area of personal discipline. Taylor's book has been a tremendous help in the learning process.

Much needed Message for Today's Recreation minded Christian

Are you having problems focusing and gettings things accomplished? Stop making excuses and get this book! As the author himself states:"Discipline is what moderns need the most and want the least." I would also say that this is a great book for high school graduates, Young Pastors and anyone needing help living a disciplined life. It is Basically in two Parts. My favorite chapter is found in the first part of the book: "Discipline and Holiness" which the author(very persuasively)shows are not synonomous. Part 2 of the book: "The Path to discipline in Christian living" offers excellent teaching and practical advice on how to achieve a life of discipline. Worth it's weight in Gold!

Good Reading

Richard Taylor writes 6 chapters on the true meaning of discipline in the Christian's life and does a thorough job of defining, theorizing, and giving practical advice on how it should be applied. He gives lots of detailed and vivid examples of people from all walks of life, from the blue-collar worker to the successful CEO and Olympic athlete, and how the practice of discipline makes them better people. He covers many different areas: athletics, musical talent, childhood rearing, knitting, and others. He also includes quotes from famous people. In the back of the book are study questions for further discussion or personal study. (It can be used as a group study guide). Overall comment: The author does a good job of pointing out what true discipline and maturity is and is not. It is however, somewhat dated, especially the language.

Disciplined living plays a major role in an effective life.

This is an excellent book for those who desire a greater depth and dimension of discipline in their lives. He who is not fit to control his own self is unfit to govern others. Boy is this timely! This book is a real guide into disciplined living.
