Love this book

I absolutely loved this book. It is absorbing and characters are wonderful. The books about this time period have taught me a lot about the war and also about the courage of many people and especially women resisting Germany.

Kommandant's Girl

This is a wonderful book about the atrocities that took place in Poland during World War Two, it is Book One in the series; book two is called "The Diplomat's Wife." It's starts off with the marriage of Jewish Poles Emma and Jacob. Jacob works for the underground resistance, and soon after their marriage he has to leave to help out with the cause. Emma also wants to help out with the resistance, and so she goes undercover, and Emma becomes Anna Lipowski. Emma/Anna lands a secretarial job working for the Nazi's. Her boss, Kommandant Richwalder seems to harbour some of his own secrets. He is pleasant to Emma/Anna, and Emma/Anna finds that she does enjoy his company, and because of this, she has to keep reminding herself that he is a Nazi. Emma/Anna has to steal things and then meet up with other underground resistance fighters to pass on the documents and verbal information. This is very dangerous work for Emma/Anna, and with the Kommandant becoming more and more fond of Emma/Anna everyday, just how far is Emma/Anna willing to go? And what will Emma/Anna do about her family that have been sent to one of the work camps? This is truly a WONDERFUL book. It is filled with action packed suspense. You won't be disappointed!

What A Fantastic Read!

Wow I loved it, it was fantastic! Again I couldn't put this one down either, just like the Kommandant's Girl, Pam Jenoff has written a brilliant story, one that keeps you turning the pages and wanting more! I was sad to find out what happened to Jacob, because Emma and him went through so much, I thought they would reunite and make it out safely, but I am glad she and Marta found each other again, as they both have gone through similiar hardships! I loved the plot and the twists, you felt for Marta the whole way, you could feel her pain when she was in the Nazi prison, and through losing her close friend Rose as well as her first experience with love with a young American soldier named Paul, and again the pain and heartbreak she feels when she learns of his (supposed) death in a plane crash! Then comes the twists! Marta is involved in a deadly game for power that she doesn't realise she is playing, everything that happens to her throughout the book is all connected and without knowing it she has been a puppet in a major communist conspiracy from the day she stepped foot in the camp in Salzburg! What a great read, I am so greatful that Marta got to tell her story, it was brilliant and I am glad that her and Paul finally found each other!

The Diplomats Wife

Excellent story, weaves true history with an exciting plot. Enjoyed it so much, I ordered the other book, by this same author. P. Jenoff is an outstanding writer. So glad to have recently learned of her.

Definitely a Page Turner!!

I thought this book was excellent. It grabbed me from the first page and I practically read the entire book in one sitting. I simply couldn't put it down. I thought the characters were well developed and the story line twists were always exciting. The setting of the story, post WW II Europe, was also very interesting. There aren't alot of contemporary novels (that I'm aware of) that showcase what happened after the war ended and communism began to take over in the east. The author did a great job of balancing between historical elements and fictionalization. The story was also very romantic. Loved it!
