First Time Encounter With The Ripper!

It was 4 years ago... I was only 17 years old, and I was I was wandering around a little bookstore in a small town just north of Toronto, Canada, when I came across this book by Shirley Harrison, I was instantly amused. I bought the book, and absolutely loved it. Since then I have read and studied over 23 books based on the Ripper case, and none of them are as informative and 'gripping' as this one. If you're interested in, or have already studied the case, READ THIS ONE!!! I promise you, it certainly will not let you down.

ONE OF THE BEST RIPPER BOOKS

THIS BOOK SHEDS ALOT OF LIGHT ON WHO JCK REALLY WAS. JAMES MAYBRICK IS THE BEST SUSPECT YET. JUST THINK ABOUT IT, HE WAS A DRUG ADDICT, HIS WIFE WAS CHEATING ON HIM HE HAD ALL THE REASONS TO KILL THE WOMEN HE KILLED. PLUS THE DIARY IS TOO REAL AND HAS TOO MUCH EVIDENCE TO BE BE A FAKE. EXCELLENT BOOK!!!!!!!! I RECOMEND IT TO EVERY ONE

You just can't put this one down!!!!

The diary or Jack the Ripper was the first book I ever read about the Whitechapel murders. And it left me wanting more. Although the diary has now been proven to be a forgery. This book makes you believe that James Maybrick was in fact Jack the Ripper. Everything seems to point to it. The book gives detailed accounts of all the Ripper murders and presents the evidence against Mr. Maybrick in a very convincing way. It also brings you inside the Maybrick home to show you why this man could be Jack the Ripper; what would have provoked him to commit these murders. You will be on the edge of your seat the whole way thru.

Hoax or no hoax aside, the book is well done.

Hoax or no hoax aside, the book is well done. Even if it were a work of fiction, I would have found the book a great read. From the very start you know who the killer is, and get to see his tragedy unfold. The ripper crime scene photos and photos of the diary enhance the read as well. I was very impressed with the book. If the diary IS a hoax (and I am not saying yay or nay), it is at least played well and does not offend. It would seem that there was a lot of time spent and research done regarding the murders and the murderer. "Saucy Jack" collectors will not be disappointed.

Beware those who cry hoax! Like the boy who cried wolf!

Later editions of this book deal fully with the "Barrett confession". The "Barrett confession", made in a drunken stupor, was recanted both by Mr. Barrett and by his attorney. The Diary itself has too much remarkable detail about both James Maybrick and Jack the Ripper for it to have been forged by Michael Barrett. It's impossible to say, at this time, what will be the upshot of further investigation into this extraordinary document, but this book is an honest introduction to that document. In the meantime, more immediate questions are why did Barrett "confess" to something he couldn't have possibly done? Who put him up to making a phony confession? Why is Barrett's "confession" being trumpeted today, notwithstanding Barrett's own recantation of it and notwithstanding the impossibility of Barrett writing the document?
