Even thou the book title makes you think that it is the continuing adventures of Sam. Nydia, Little Sam and Dog. The book only mentions them is passing. This is a stand alone book dealing with a new hero to battle the forces of the Devil. I liked the main charater Link. I wish there were more people like him and the sheriff. Link is the type of person who doesn't beat around the bush and deals with problems in his own sneaky way. plus the fact if you mess with his animals, you automatically get on his bad side. Link is a country vet who loves animals and is trying to relax in the simple country life but strange events and a new country vet put a monkey wrench into that idea. The story is fast paced and a little strange at times but Mr. Johnstone brings elements of the Old West and past charater names and events from his previous books into the story. Link is very resourseful and I like the way he handles 4 'people' who were planning to set fire to his animals just to watch them burn. The humorous elements in the book is provided by 4 'imps' who have some great one liners and do provide some laughs every now and then. The battle is fierce between Link, the imps and The Devil's agents and I can't wait until part two of the further adventures of Link is published. I would recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of Mr. Johnstone or anyone who likes a good horror novel with some humorous parts to sort of 'break the tension' before being set up for another surprise.

This was the first WWJ book that I read, and I couldn't put it down. Ever since then, I've been hooked. I own over ninety of his books, and have loved every one of them. WWJ is a diverse writer who can write intriguing books about in a variety of settings. Link is my favorite WWJ character, and I still love to read this book.

You will not put this book down until you are finished. Great detail and very, very fast paced. This guy blows Steven King away.
