A probing investigation into passive and active minds.

The Descent of Mind looks deeply into the processes of thought, the nature of the human brain, and the way we try to create an emulation of the human brain inside the computer. It brings to light the several types of intelligence that humans display, and that individuals excel in some of these intelligences. Sections in the book discuss the IQ tests which have been run in several sections of cummunity, looking for intellectual and intellegencial bias, Decartes theory of mind and matter, Cleverness/Intelligence Threshold (CIT), Consciousness, and many "off the wall" topics, such as Chess. My favorite sections are the computing-thought ones, though one which particularly interested me was on the structure of the brain, the brains response to learning, and Compartments of the Mind. I found this book interesting to myself, with a background of Chaos, Fractals, Mandelbrot et al, and similarly linked to Ian Stewart's mainstream book "Does God Play Dice?" (The Mathematics of Chaos) by the book "Image of the Brain" by Jim Jubak. If you have an interest of AI, Computing, Mathematics, Neurology, and Chaos, these three books are a must.
