A Knight at the Movies

I am Mike Booth's mother-in-law. I am also a lifelong movie addict. What distinguishes "The Denver Post's Guide to the Best Family Films" from other movie reviews is its unique perspective on the role movies can play in enriching intergenerational dialogue. The introduction pulls the reader into the book by describing the fun of sharing movies with children and grandchildren. The book also gives practical advice on how to interpret movie ratings to determine whether a particular movie is right for your child. But, most important, the reviews--written with humor and great enthusiasm for the art form--will make you want to drop everything and go on a 52 movie binge. They will also encourage you to add your own favorites to the list. How about "Cinema Paradiso," Mike? Iris Rotberg Potomac, Maryland

Lost in Blockbuster...

Oh, how I wish I could reclaim the lost hours, days, weeks? spent wandering the isles of Blockbuster, searching for appropriate family films! Mr. Booth to the rescue, with this inspiring volume of choice cinema fun, to satisfy the fussiest offspring, and adults alike. I appreciate his out-of-the-box approach, in choosing movies completely off my radar screen. His essay clarifying Hollywood's mystifying rating system, alone, is worth the price of admission. Not only has this book made my life easier, but here's the best part,...he gives children credit for having actual brains. Way to blow right past all the Disney/Pixar mainstream stuff, and deliver some thought provoking options! Family Movie night has just lost the hassle factor, and become all about the FUN!

Everything but the popcorn

It's hard to know whose opinion to trust when it comes to choosing age-appropriate films for the kids, and the task becomes doubly difficult when trying to figure out which of those movies would also appeal to the whole family. Mike Booth has turned this job into an art form. His amusing and spot-on observations make this book a fun read even if you never pop a DVD into the player. But it's invaluable as a guide to a satisfying family movie night that doesn't send us -- or our 14-year-old son -- scrambling to revise our Neflix queue.

An Excellent Choice!

Michael Booth's film guide is an excellent way to help decide on a movie for the whole family! His reviews are thorough, fun to read, witty and informative. If you are trying to find a good movie and are stumped, this book is extremely helpful. Or if you have a movie in mind and want to know if it's appropriate for certain ages, Booth's reviews help immensely. I am a parent of two sons, ages 12 and 17, and we are often searching for good movie ideas. This book is the key!
