One of the most moving and helpful books I've read....as a christian. The storyline clearly illuminates many of the shortfalls and dangers of our normal American religious practices. The fact is that there are many American christians who, being caught up in our normal organized (commercial) religion, have this nagging feeling in their gut that something with the religious system is very wrong - they just can't put their finger on it. This book will help you identify the reasons for that nagging feeling. Many, many parallels here to Neo inside The Matrix. I met the primary author, Mike Peters, years ago. In spite of the rash of internet traffic lambasting him and his group in Indy, I found them to be solid christians. That is my opinion only...those who have lived in Indy with this group are certainly entitled to their opinions. When I met with them in California, they were a humble, serious group of believers who truly cared about my spiritual well-being. I'd heartily recommend the book to any christian - or anyone exploring christianity.
What 1st Century Christianity could look like in the 21st

The earliest church, birthed in Jerusalem in the fires of Pentecost, lived remarkable lives. They experienced awe and joy as they shared daily life together on a depth few Christians in our day have every witnessed. How might such dynamic, Jesus-centered fellowship look in our century? This novel, set in contemporary North America, describes the birth of just such a church. Readers will find themselves re-evaluating their preconceived ideas about what "church" means. A book this provocative will no doubt excite many strong opinions, both for and against it. But that, too, was the experience of the early church! Not a book for protectors of the status quo and lovers of comfort zones, but for free-thinking yet serious-minded disciples of Jesus.
This book was life-changing for me!

About ten years ago, someone gave me this book. From the moment I picked it up, I could not stop reading it. And like many others who have read it before I did and since I have, I was jarred and challenged by the question, "could this really be possible?" After ten years, I can tell you first-hand that the answer is YES. Praise ONLY to the One Who is the Author and Finisher of our Faith and the King of Judah - JESUS, Who is truly preparing a Bride for Himself. The Day of Small Beginnings gives hope and a place to start walking out what Jesus and His first followers shared and expressed together - a church where people take God at His word and then walk it out together, rather than just settle for compromise in their lives and others. If this book were just a fantasy or a fiction about a group of people that lived on some far away planet or during another place and time, then it would still be a good book. But the one thing that sets Day of Small Beginnings on a "must read" for anyone who really wants to be sold out to Jesus and wants to see themselves and others around them truly set free to live as Jesus wants us to live, is that it is written by people who have and do really walk out the story they tell in the book. By the way, although this book is free to download or obtain from the authors free of charge, there is a risk to reading something like this - you will either find yourself discounting and disregarding what Jesus said His Church can and should look like, OR you will be inspired to find a way to trust and believe Him and "go for it!" Both will cost you.
True Church Living

The Day of Small Beginnings weaves vignettes of people living in different church styled settings (Bible College, Institutional/Building Church and Community Living Church). Characters experience heartache and persecution as they expose the errors within each system. On their journey, they encounter personal loss as they come out of the system of religion. However, they gain something greater as they learn to love and admonish each other daily.
