Alarmingly Rogue Government/Military

A few years ago, I would have disbelieved the tales of how arrogant and hubristic the intelligence community and military are portrayed in this book. But now with the internet, where additional information can come out about events and misdeeds and whistleblowers can more easily speak and not be muffled, I can't help but wonder if a lot of the decisions and actions relayed in this book might actually be true, given the things we have now heard about in the recent news. Hubristic folks deciding for others what is best for them. Without consulting anyone. Without checks and balances. Based on their own personal opinion. So tired of being manipulated. Glad to read this book for its perspective and thought-provoking text - in a way I did not expect. Thought it was just going to be mostly about aliens.... Nope. Could have used more detail on many issues he just mentions in passing, as if they are true and common knowledge, rather than eyebrow-raising. e.g. extraterrestrials "had already set up a base of operations on the moon." Really? How so? Interesting quote of many: "You can't trust the politicians, but you can trust other spies. At least that is what spies believe, so their primary loyalty is to their own group and the other groups playing the same game. The CIA, KGB, British Secret Service....loyal to themselves and their profession first and to their respective governments last."

Somethings not right.

At first glance, this book appears credible. It's an account of Col. Philip Corso, (Ret.) US Army and his involvement with the assignment and exploitation of technology recovered from the infamous Roswell UFO crash which is said to have occurred in July of 1947. Assuming a retired Colonel would be somewhat above reproach, one is willing to give the him the benefit of a doubt. So, I purchased the book. Unfortunately, as the story progresses, his account becomes more difficult to accept. Add that with his grandiose claims of shaping world history and the book goes off the rails by the forth chapter. It's not just that it's a badly written book (which one could credit that to William Birnes the co author), for I would think that's excusable in this type of memoir. No, it's the continued and more complex outlandish claims. The writer sets a slightly viable premise, than consistently builds an unacceptable account. The longer the author goes on about the "real history" of the world the more difficult it is to believe. And given the errant writing, the harder it is to read. I felt like I was trudging through a swamp. I have read the question asked, "Why would Corso provide us with such an over the rails account?" My answer is, there could be many reasons but his motivation is not important. What I believe is important is the proof, or the lack thereof. Finally, if he is providing us with a truthful account the obvious question is why? Why would he violate his pledges of secretly? I'm sorry, it's just too incredulous to believe. Like most UFO books and such; the story sounds great, but real hard evidence is lacking. It's not worth the money and worse, your time taken to read this book. Stay away....

It is ALL true & MORE!!!

Paul Hellyer Former Canadian Minister of Defense says that it is all true and MORE!

One of the best books in this Genre!

Having read the TOP Four books in the UFO/Alien/ Government Coverup Genre; My FAVORITE is 'Alien Rapture' by Brad Steiger (Great fiction-soon to be a movie); and Alien Agenda by the best selling author of 'Crossfire' Jim Marrs (Best reference on UFOlogy); and Unconventional Flying Objects (NASA UFO Investigator for 30 years) by the scientist Dr. Paul Hill, I'd say Corso's book is a MUST READ! Why would a respected, decorated, connected Military Officer swear in a Court of Law that the UFO Conspiracy is real and that the facts and agenda in these books ARE TRUE. Why? If you read this excellent book and the others, you will know that they are indeed true. Two well respected American Astronauts have come forward to proclaim they had seen evidence of the Roswell UFO crash and stated they know the cover-up is real. Was his sudden demise a product of this conspiracy? You be the judge.

A Very Important Book on the American UFO Cover-Up!

Fascinating

Here is my thoughts on this book. This is a fascinating book that is well written, logical, and easy to read. It clearly explains how the great jump in our technology happened in the last 50 or so years. IF it's true. If it's not a true book, then the author is very creative and the book is still a good read. I for one do not doubt that this whole book might be based on truth. Basically the author recounts how he got a filing cabinet full of information that he had to 'farm out' to companies. The information? technology that was retrieved from a downed space craft (UFO) that crashed in Roswell. The author recounts how he helped share this information with others so that they could use it to increase our technology. Fascinating.

Credibility of the man most important

Lt. Colonel Corso's history has been verified. He was in the pentagon's foreign technology division and he was a military liason to the Eisenhower white house administration. A man of his stature and military experience would simply not be prone to making up stories. Anyone who has experience with the honor and integrity someone who has risen to the rank of Lt. Colonel has to take a second look at this book. Why would such a man write this book, especially at the end of his life and only two years before he died? For the money? Did he go crazy at the end of his life? While these are possible explanations, they don't seem plausible in the Lt. Colonel's case.Critics complain that there is no documentation. Of course there aren't! Taking home top secret documents is definitely frowned upon. Can his story be proven then? No.But the real compelling factor to the story is the man. To me, it is simply not plausible that such a man would make up stories. Maybe he wanted to die with a clear conscience? I don't know, but the high degree of credibility of the author certainly made me take a closer look at his book.

Absolutely The Best

I've read literally hundreds of books and articles on UFO's - which I find to be a very serious subject. Unfortunately there are too many "questionable" sources contributing to the subject and many times it makes a mockery of serious contributers. In "The Day After Roswell" Colonel Philip J. Corso provides what I feel is the most detailed, reliable and completely objective account of history's most debated UFO incedent. Colonel Corso is one of a kind - in the right position at the right time to have first hand knowledge of many interesting details, a man of unquestionable integrity dedicated to serving the American people and exposing this incident for what it really is, and a true master of seperating fact from speculation. The truth is completely exposed in this book, more completely than I've ever seen. Everything from what actually happened in the deserts of New Mexico to the political and military scramble to not only cover it up but also to prepare a defense against it. Colonel Corso, I salute you - it takes a man of exceptional courage to jeapordize such an outstanding military career to do what's right.
