Eleven years pass rather quickly at the beginning of this book to set the stage for what is to come in the life of Sam Parker--eleven years in prison. Sam Parker wasn't even his real name, and until someone came who knew who he really was, his gun would remain put away; and he would continue to seek the quiet lonely life offered. But it was not to be....Frank Gruber is known for these kinds of stories, and he is the master of creating conflict, with lightning action, and mis-direction because of hidden or secret identities. His books also read like you are watching a movie because of the rapidly changing scenes from page to page.
INTERESTING COVER ART
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 15 years ago
I have already reviewed this western under another 'cover' (July 7, 2007). Here I concentrate on the cover art only. It is interesting to me that this very same cover art from September, 1982, had been used earlier in June, 1977, for one of Frank O'Rourke westerns entitled BADGER. In all my years of collecting and reading westerns I have not see this done very often, if ever. Since I like this painting, by the late Frank McCarthy I believe, this has always struck me as rather strange that Bantam Books would do such a thing so quickly. Oh, well, no matter what the cover art, the western novel reads the same, and that is very well indeed. Semper Fi.
