what fun!

I'm always in search of books that parents can enjoy as well as their children, and this is one of them. Treggiari can really develop a character you can sink your teeth into. Highly recommended!

This book has something for everyone!

At first, when reading "The Curious Misadventures of Feltus Ovalton," I found myself comparing it to other stories like Harry Potter, A Wrinkle in Time, etc and I kept trying to predict what would happen next based on those other stories. Pretty soon, though, I was so immersed in the characters and their adventures, that all I thought about was what was coming on the next page. I love to root for the underdog, and this book not only had plenty of those, but they each were an intriguing mix of lovable, pathetic, brave, weird, and sometimes gross qualities. Feltus, himself, was one of those kids whose bratty attitude I initially found annoying, but as I got to know him, I realized how much his cynicism was a survival strategy for getting through childhood. Ultimately, I think Feltus reminds me of myself, and for that I love him! The otherworldly creatures and magical phenomena in the story were a lot of fun and were refreshingly original. They were just fantastical enough to be intriguing, and just realistic enough to be believable. Well, not believable like I'm looking for portals to other worlds under my sink, but believable like, households in our culture have so much waste going out in trash cans and garbage disposal units, that a whole other culture probably could survive off our refuse! All in all, this book is definitely worth checking out. It has something for everyone... magic and adventure, social commentary, as well as a misfit/hero/rebel/regular kid to identify with. I look forward to Feltus' next adventures!

step aside JK Rowling!

My son and I loved this book! I have no doubt that this author has more 'Feltus' lurking up her sleeve or in her pen or under her typewriter or in some portal somewhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A great read for parents and kids

This book has everything: adventure, suspense, lots of humor -- and plenty of imagination. Feltus also has an edge to it, a sophistication so many other children's books lack, so parents can enjoy it as well as their kids. Feltus himself is a wonderful, flawed hero -- an outsider at school who I'm sure many young readers could relate to. My daughter and I read the book together, and both of us loved it.

a weird and magical fantasy

This hilarious, wacky fantasy was unlike any I've ever read. Oh sure it has elements of Roald Dahl- surreal scenes, dark humor- but the hero, Feltus Ovalton LeRoi, seemed so real and flawed in a good way. If magic suddenly entered your world, if everything you knew turned topsy-turvy, how would you react? We'd all like to believe that we would be brave and generous but the truth is we'd probably be scared and whiny and more inclined to hide in the corner. It was fun to read a book from the point of view of someone who was grumpy, selfish and not always nice plus in the end he almost acted heroic despite himself. The book was full of strange and weirdly wonderful characters and creatures. It played on prejudices most of us have, and at the end of it the reader realizes along with Feltus himself that sometimes heroes come in the shape of huge sentient toads, PoodleRats, smelly old ladies and petulant bad-tempered boys, and that magic can be found under a table or in a toilet bowl.
