A Journey of Promises

This novel is a P & P fanfiction, however it is one of the best I have read. It's about promises made and promises kept but more importantly it's about the journey that takes place to keep them. A journey of love, not only between Elizabeth and Darcy (main story) but between David Darcy & Cecilia Lawton (new character's) and to a lessor degree Jane and Bingley and even Georgiana and Joseph Bennett. But it's so much more. The author has a superb ability to relay historical fact with modern day Southern and English principles reguarding life. The blending of history both English and Southern (USA), Scotish folklore, and Indian (Cherokee) legends set the backdrop for the story as it unfolds. Her unique style of weaving in canon to this modern day love story keeps you wanting to turn the page, yet hoping the story never ends. The struggles that the charcters endure on their journey of life is interwoven with the history of the Darcy, Bennett and Lawton familes and very true to the premise of P & P with the Darcy Pride being portrayed exceptionally in this modern day love story. I find it very difficult not to give you the story itself, but that would defeat the purpose of this review which is to recommend you read this book. As a die hard "P & P fanfiction" follower I would strongly recommend reading this not once but several times as you miss so much the first time around....I can't wait until the author continues this saga because I will be first in line to buy it.

Absolutely Enjoyable!

This book was absolutely wonderful! I loved how the author took Jane Austen's story and made it her own. The introduction of new characters made the story so interesting. Although this book is long, I never felt that the story dragged in any way. I loved how the author weaved new and old tales throughout the story. Every time I put the book down I wanted to immediately pick it back up again because I was so intrigued by the characters and story line. The Love scenes were very tasteful and not on every other page of the book. She knew exactly where to put them without introducing sex overkill! This story is full of deep conflicts, love, loss and history. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a deep and meaningful story!

Could'nt put it down

I have read many variations on Pride and Prejudice, and this is by far the best and most enjoyable by far. It is a quick read as well as entertaining. From the first page until the last the reader will be truely satisfied if they are a lover of all things Darcy and Elizabeth. Even though it is set in present time, the past history of Darcy and Elizabeth is intertwined in the story. The only negative thing I can say about the the story is that it ended...I wanted more! I am looking foreward to Mrs. Baxley's next addition!

A very enjoyable read

I just finished this story this morning with a good cup of English tea and my cat curled in my lap. Although long, this was an enjoyable read. In fact, I never even felt that it was all that long because it moved quickly and every time I set it down, I dreamed of the characters and what they were doing. It's filled with conflicts and strong emotions, characters that are multi-dimensional and complex, and that's just the way I like it. I also enjoyed the conflict resolution. It was intense, satisfying, with all the things I look for in a good, well written story. I especially liked the journals and how they were used to enlighten the characters to the secrets of the past that overshadowed their future, especially George Darcy's journal that he left to his son, David. I was so drawn into the story that I didn't want it to end. The story has many surprises, things I wouldn't have thought of, but you'll have to read to discover them for yourself. The Cumberland Plateau has two major plot-lines and one minor with several small plot-lines that enhance the major ones. If you enjoy a deep read that hooks you and keeps you, this is for you. As for me, I am anxiously looking forward to the next installment. Dana Darcy cannot come quick enough for me. This one is a keeper!

I wholeheartedly recommend this book!

I love Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice and usually perfer the sequels or variations written in the regency period. A best friend recommended I read this story and I absolutely loved it! This author, through her capable writing skills, does an excellent job blending this powerful, timeless love story into a modern setting. We experience characters full of personality and real feelings. Then, using her excellent knowledge of southern history, transports us to the heart of Dixieland with a backdrop full of southern charm that you will think about long after you've finished the book. I don't think even Pat Conroy could have described it better! Through this unique plot our couple still experiences all the "familiar" highs and lows and you will recognize them all throughout her story (to me it's very important when sequels are written that they stay somewhat within the basics of the original love story) but also MK very cleverly weaves the history and genealogy of both their families along with geography and history, which adds an extension of suspense and interest which I enjoyed. And even though Cumberland Plateau has 500+ pagaes, don't let that scare you off....you will enjoy each and every page! I would also like to add I think MK did a wonderful job selecting her covers; and adding the pictures throughout the pages really brings the story to life.
